As much as we might not want to admit it, or even looking forward to it. The end of 2021 is nearly upon us, and we are starting to look at 2022. The best way to kick off 2022 is by not loosing momentum you have and finish 2021 strong.
How you do that? Simple. Let’s end off 2021 by making your marketing plan for 2022. That way on your first day back in the office of 2022 you are ready to go and hitting the ground running!
Sounds like a great idea, right? It is and its not as hard as you think it might be.

The argument I hear often is why does my business need professional photos of the products we sell? The camera on my phone takes perfectly good photos. In most cases that might be true, the cameras they have on cell phones now days are great. But just like my last post about this Selfie vs Pro-Photographer , there is a lot more to this topic than you realize.

The biggest difference between using your cell phone to take your product photos and having me or another professional photographer take them for you is not the camera. Its the person behind the camera.

Me.

Having me take your product photos mean that not only do you get photos, but you get the Strategy Sessions needed to set those photos into a context that not only aligns with your brand but conveys the right message to your customers.

Just like with using a cell phone to create a headshot. When all things are equal, the professional camera will always create a better more interesting image.

But if you’re still not sure here are a few tips which should allow you to get more out of your cell phone product photos.

First. Slow down. 99% of the time it takes to make the photo is putting the pieces together. The act of taking the actual photo is the smallest part of the process.

Second. Find lots of natural shade. Harsh light will ruin your product photos. Even light will bring out all the fine details and have your product stand out.

Third. Make it interesting. Don’t just use a white backdrop. Leave that for Catalog work or Amazon. If you want your customers to notice your photos than you need to make it interesting.

Fourth. Use a self timer. No one want to see blurry photos and using a self timer will get rid of most of that problem.

I know it may seem like a lot of work but the more effort you put into your photos the more they will get noticed. And in turn your business will get noticed.

What do I mean by visual assets? Well, that’s the photos that go along with the social media posts, Google and FB ads and any other messages that you are putting out to your potential customers.

One of the key jobs of a marketing plan is to get the attention of your customer. The best way to do that is with great Photos!

Having the photos that complement and enhance the messages you’re sending out to your customers is key to getting noticed by those same customers.

Which is going to give you a better headshot? You using your iPhone camera or getting a professional headshot done. I’m going to fully admit as a professional photographer, I am a little biased in this topic but bare with me.

If all things are equal the professional headshot is always going to make you look better than your camera phone. Unfortunately, things are rarely equal and that’s going to make your cell phone selfie headshot that you are using look so much worse than the professional headshot you could be using.

When you get a professional headshot done with Filipek Photography, or any professional photographer for that matter, this is what we bring to the table.

First, years of experience. My job is to make you look awesome. I’m going to do that.

Second, professional equipment. Experience matters but so does the gear we use as professional photographers. Our experience lets us know which lens to use in which situation. For headshots, my go to lens is the Canon 135mm f2L. Its a beast of a lens that makes anyone I have in front of it look amazing. But it has taken me years of trial and error to be able to use that lens right.

Thirds, a team of experts. Getting a professional headshot is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Wardrobe, hair & makeup, background, lighting and camera. Together we bring all these pieces together to create an amazing image for you.

Finally, its a lot of fun! When I do my headshot sessions, I make sure my clients are having a good time. Music is playing, we are telling stories and creating real emotion and real moments which makes a profound difference in the photos.

There is lots of moving pieces but in the end, you get a photo that you can not only be proud of but are able to utilize it along so many different areas.

Still not convinced. Ok, well if you are going to use your camera phone. Here are a few tips on getting it better.

First, use the main camera. The main camera on phones is 2-3x better quality than the one you use for selfies. So, use that one! You’re also going to need a phone stand or something to hold your phone to do this.

Second, get in front of a big window, preferably north facing. The more light that’s in the image the better you are going to look.

Third, if you can’t get someone else to take the photo for you, use a self timer or get a selfie stick to get some distance between you and the camera.

Fourth. Fill the frame! Your cell phone headshot needs to be of you. Your headshot should take up about 2/3rds of the frame.
